Is God Good?

Anointed

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. (I don’t lack anything) 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,  for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.  You anoint my head with oil…       Psalm 23: 1 – 5 (ESV)

Anointed by God:  INTERNAL

Anointed by man:  EXTERNAL

1.  When God appoints, He anoints.

1 Thessalonians 5: 24 (ESV) He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.

2.    God’s anointing makes me a better person.

1 Samuel 10: 1, 6 & 7 (NLT) Then Samuel took a flask of olive oil and poured it over Saul’s head. He kissed Saul and said,  “I am doing this because the Lord has appointed you to be the ruler over Israel,  his special possession.  6 At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you,  and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a  different person.  7 After these signs take place,   do what must be done, for God is with you.

3.    God’s anointing makes difficult  tasks easier.

Ephesians 3: 16 (NLT) I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.

Philippians 4: 13 (ESV) I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

4.    God’s anointing makes the impossible possible.

Luke 18: 27 (NLT) ...What is impossible for people is possible with God.

Ephesians 3: 20 (ESV) Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.

6.    God anoints my life to bless others.

Isaiah 61: 1 - 3 (ESV) The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;   2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion — to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
