WHAT YOU GET- WHAT YOU GIVE // Sunday, August 29, 2021

Sunday — August 29, 2021

What You Get – What You Give

What you get when you receive Christ:

1. Forgiveness

Romans 5: 15 (NLT)

…there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.

2. Eternal Life

Romans 6: 23 (NLT)

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

3. The Holy Spirit

Romans 5: 3 - 5 (ESV)

…we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,

and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

4. Abilities

Ephesians 2: 10 (NLT)

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Why does God give us abilities?

1.                To bring Him glory

1 Corinthians 10: 31 (NLT)

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

2.                To serve others.

1 Peter 4: 10 (NLT)

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

3.               To be an example to others.

1 Timothy 4: 14 – 18 (NLT)

Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you. 15 Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress. 16 Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.

4.               To build the church.

Ephesians 4: 11 – 13 (NLT)

Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

What should I do?

1.               Discover

2.               Develop

3.               Dedicate

4.               Deploy

A Final word:

Romans 12: 3 – 9 (NLT)

I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.  Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them…
